The private loft will shut its doors in May.
The private loft club was known for its intimate feel and audiophile soundsystem. It has regularly hosted events over the last four years, featuring artists like Eli Escobar, Tim Sweeney, Maria Chavez, Jex Opolis and Seb Wildblood. The venue announced today that it will close in May because owner Cecily Pinkerton is starting a grad school program.
"Because so many wonderful new clubs have opened within a few blocks of me," Pinkerton told Resident Advisor, "it's become tougher to be a sole owner without partners or financial backing. Finally, the physical space itself has some limitations. It's hard to compete with newer places that have amenities like outdoor space or a full bar and or restaurant. However, after grad school, it's entirely possible I'll work on a fresh business plan for a venue if the interest is still there on the part of the public."
The final events at Starvue will happen on the weekend of May 18th and 19th, featuring secret guests from Detroit.
