Kandeyce Jorden's new documentary explores the world around women DJs in the mid-aughts.
Girl, which started production in 2003, follows women on the commercial dance music scene as it began to boom. Jorden's film focuses on DJ Sandra Collins, with whom she developed an intense connection. "Something about her and her music drew me in, and I got caught up in the moment." Only after Jorden got "completely lost" in the scene, did she feel able to tell the story.
Girl also features DJ Rap, DJ Irene, DJ Colette and DJ Lady D, and its soundtrack includes music by Satoshie Tomie, Colette, JunkieXL and The Crystal Method. It will be available to watch on June 1st on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play.
