The compilation, Midnight In Tokyo, comes through the offshoot label Studio Mule.
Dubby, who runs the Tokyo-based online record store ONDAS, put together Midnight In Tokyo Vol. 2, which we're told highlights "tasty electric jazz fusion from the '80s." Among the artists featured are Today's Latin Project, a group fronted by Tadaaki Misago (who led the influential Latin big band group Tokyo Cuban Boys)—their song, "Danza Lucumi," includes arrangements from Mariah's Yasuaki Shimizu—and guitarist Shigeru Suzuki, whose track "On The Coast" was made with help from Ryuichi Sakamoto. Parachute, Safari, Yuji Toriyama, Jugando and Air Suspension Club Band also appear on the compilation.
Like Midnight In Tokyo Vol. 1, a set of disco, boogie and soul that Mule head Toshiya Kawasaki compiled himself, Vol. 2 was mastered by Kuniyuki Takahashi, and Mika Kitamura provided the cover photo. It's out in late July on CD and double-vinyl formats.
Also on the way, via the main Mule imprint, is Romanian artist Petre Inspirescu's Murgullll 12-inch. Due out later this month, it'll be the first dance floor-oriented release from Inspirescu since 2014, when he debuted on Mule with his record Talking Waters. (The interim saw him deliver two ambient-leaning LPs to the label: 2014's Vin Ploile and last year's Vîntul Prin Salcii.)
