  • Canadian ambient artist Sarah Davachi is putting out a new album called Gave In Rest on September 14th. The album was inspired by Davachi's heavy touring schedule and her eventual move to Los Angeles, along with the feeling of relief she experienced after settling there. In an interview with Noisey, she discussed the unusually obsessive nature of the record's creative process, saying, "It was a weird therapeutic thing, putting everything into working on this record so the rest of my life could mellow out a little bit." Gave In Rest combines her drone and ambient style with "a predilection for medieval and renaissance music," says the label Ba Da Bing. It was recorded in moments of quiet during her 2017 travels and then finished in Los Angeles. It makes heavy use of tape delays and chorus effects applied to vocals, piano and Hammond organ. This is Davachi's second album of 2018, following Let Night Come On Bells End The Day on Sean McCann's Recital label in April. Listen to "Evensong."
