  • A protest has been organised in opposition to Hackney Council's new licensing policy. A Facebook event is calling for a demonstration to be held outside the London borough's Town Hall this Friday, the 27th, at 12 PM. It comes in the wake of widespread outcry against the controversial policy, which requires all new venues in the area to close by 11 PM on weekdays and 12 AM on weekends. Protest organisers have called the measures "a direct attack on local businesses," which "will disproportionately impact marginalised communities who have made Hackney their home." This week, Resident Advisor reached out to Diane Abbott, MP for Hackney North, about Hackney Council's licensing decision. She declined to comment. Last weekend, Hackney Wick police council shut down Hackney Marshes for 24 hours after receiving intelligence "about an illegal rave."
