  • Peacefrog is reissuing John Beltran's highly regarded 1996 album Ten Days Of Blue. Beltran's second full-length is hailed as a masterpiece from the mid-'90s ambient techno scene. Peacefrog is now set to give the album its first proper vinyl reissue, after a limited blue-colored edition came out in 2011. Last year, Beltran linked up with Belgian label De:Tuned to release Moth, an album billed as the follow-up to Ten Days Of Blue. Peacefrog's move to give new life to the 1996 LP follows recent represses for other mid-'90s efforts like Dan Curtin's The Silicon Dawn, Paul Johnson's Feel The Music and Stasis' Fromtheoldtothenew. Another Stasis record, the Circuit Funk 12-inch, is also being reissued. Update: After Beltran's statement disputing the release, we reached out to both Peacefrog as well as the Michigan techno artist. Beltran replied: "HBO reached out to Peacefrog for the license of [Ten Days Of Blue closer] 'Collage of Dreams (Outro).' Peacefrog and I were cool. Not one issue between us. I loved working for them. [Peacefrog founder] Pete [Hutchinson] had then asked me if he could handle my publishing for that particular song. In all honesty. I didn't know much about publishing then, so I agreed. Hell, we had a good relationship going. I trusted Pete. Then I would ask him about payment for the sync and he stopped replying to me. I didn't do anything wrong. What could I do? I had no control of the music (this was before the digital wave) and of course no intent to hurt him. I hired a lawyer but nothing ever came of it." Beltran adds he licensed material from Ten Days Of Blue for a "best of" compilation on Delsin (2011's Best Of: Ambient Selections 1995 - 2011) and indemnified that label in case Peacefrog "went after them." Beltran says, "They never did, because they had already breached the contract." He also says that he'd let the matter go but felt the need to weigh in upon news of the reissue. Peacefrog has not responded to RA's request for comment. Listen to Ten Days Of Blue's title track.
