Labyrinth will relocate in 2019.
The much-loved Japanese festival announced that its next edition would be its last at Naeba Greenland, which has been home since 2009. In a statement, the organisers, Mindgames, said that "the time has come to build new memories on new land to empower the Labyrinth ritual further."
"The Labyrinth 2018 will be the tenth Labyrinth in our current home at Naeba," continued the statement. "That space is embedded with the most powerful memories, and for us that spot is sacred land that we infuse with meaning via music, dance, and community. But we have decided that the tenth Labyrinth at Naeba will be our last there, and that next year we will move to a new venue so we can explore new creative directions and challenges."
The festival's first edition took place at Wada Touge, Nagano, in 2001, and it's moved around a few times since. Its current spot has been its most long-term location. Earlier this month, Labyrinth, best known for its deep techno sound, said it would withhold information about lineups and timetables until attendees arrived onsite. Labyrinth kicks off Saturday, September 22nd.
