Ciel is releasing a new EP next month.
The follow-up to 2017's Electrical Encounters on Peach Discs, Hundred Flowers will be released on Seb Wildblood and Hollick's label, Coastal Haze, in November. The four-track EP will be the second record from the Toronto producer, real name Cindy Li.
Ciel says she worked on Hundred Flowers shortly after writing her first record while putting on parties locally, which helped inspire the release. "The track that would eventually become 'The Twirler' was inspired by a guy who I frequently saw at my parties and my friends' parties who dances by twirling in wide circles on the dance floor," Li says. "In the beginning, I was a bit annoyed by how much space he was taking, but through time I noticed he actually was quite considerate and would narrow his strides if the party was really full... This guy always comes, seemingly alone, and dances from the beginning of the opening set until the very end. In a way, getting accidentally hit by the twirler's limbs is a rite of passage for Toronto ravers, and if I'm at a party and he isn't there, I lowkey miss his presence." She adds, "As a DJ, I am forever inspired by people whose dedication and love for dancing and dance music is so pure, innocent and completely unrelated to substances or getting lit or scene BS, so I named one of the more playful tunes on this EP after him."
