Sunn O))) have detailed the first of two albums they'll put out in 2019 via Southern Lord Records.
Cofounders Stephen O'Malley & Greg Anderson set out to develop a new studio method for Life Metal, out in April, and their next LP, Pyroclasts, which comes out in the fall. They reached out to Steve Albini to record with him at his Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, to which he replied: "Sure, this will be fun. I have no idea what is going to happen," the label says.
They also brought on Icelandic cellist and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, who was a member of the band múm and also collaborated with Pan Sonic and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Tim Midyett, a longtime friend of O'Malley and Andersen, joined in the recordings too, playing aluminium neck bass and baritone guitars.
