Tim Hecker announces new album, Anoyo

- It's a companion piece to last year's Kranky LP, Konoyo.
- Tim Hecker will release Anoyo, a companion piece to his 2018 album Konoyo, in May. Anoyo, which translates to "the world over there," draws from the same sessions that led to Hecker's last Konoyo, which landed in our 2018 best albums list. As on that LP, Anoyo explores the interplay between Hecker's soundscapes and a traditional Japanese gagaku ensemble. Kranky describes the companion full-length as "starker, solemn and stripped back, with more of a naturalist tint." It isn't the first time the Canadian artist has supplemented one of his LPs with a companion album. 2011's Ravedeath, 1972 was followed by a companion set called Dropped Pianos. This weekend, Hecker will launch a tour with the Konoyo Ensemble centering on sold-out three-night stands in New York and Los Angeles. Dates are below.
