Sydney and Melbourne DJs rally around Phil K with fundraiser gigs

- Fundraisers for Melbourne DJ Phil K are being held in his hometown and in Sydney over the coming weekends. With more than three decades of experience behind the decks, Phil Krokidis is one of Australia's longest-serving and best-loved captains of the dance floor. Earlier this year, the Victorian revealed he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and, later, terminal prostate cancer, rendering him unable to work since September. Invasive surgery left Krokidis too weak to withstand chemotherapy, with the only remaining treatment option being Zytiga, a monthly pill costing $20,000 per year, which, under the circumstances, would not be covered by insurance. Krokidis detailed his story in a GoFundMe page seeking to raise funds to pay for the drug, with the initiative far exceeding the original $20,000 target. Now DJ friends from both Melbourne and Sydney are gearing up to support the cause further. Close to two dozen artists including John Course, Rollin Connection, Jamie Stevens, Kasey Taylor and Anthony Pappa will play a 14-hour, three-room party at Melbourne's La Di Da on March 30th, with all proceeds going towards Krokidis. Two weeks later at Sydney's Club 77, acts such as Simon Caldwell, Ben Korbel, Mark Dynamix and The Aston Shuffle will also lend their services to the cause. Health permitting, Krokidis is expected to make an appearance in the booth at both nights.
