  • Valhalla DSP has a new delay plug-in. Prized especially for reverb effects like Shimmer and VintageVerb, the Pacific Northwest-based company has now released a versatile delay module called ValhallaDelay. By mixing and matching different delay modes and styles, the plug-in covers a wide range of sound options, offering "multi-head tape echoes, dark bucket brigade delays, old-school digital delays, pitch doublers, reverse delays, screaming feedback, subtle choruses" and more. ValhallaDelay is divided into seven sound modes based on different types of delay, such as tape, bucket brigade, hi-fi and pitch. A new style called Ghost blends frequency-shifting with tape-style delay and a diffusion algorithm, while a new Quad style replicates the response of '60s- and '70s-era machines using four tape heads. With delay times ranging from zero milliseconds to 20 seconds, ValhallaDelay is also capable of comb filter effects and can smooth out the attack of echoes with a Diffusion control that pushes the delay into reverb territory. You can learn about the plug-in in great detail from developer Sean Costello's illuminating blog posts, or download a trial from the Valhalla DSP website. The plug-in costs $50.
