- So far it's offered exclusively to Engineer Pass holders at Moogfest.
A new Moog synth was introduced at Moogfest.
Holders of the festival's $1,500 Engineer Pass were given the chance to build the Spectravox, which Moog describes as a "spectral modulator." The Asheville-based company cites Bell Labs engineer Homer Dudley's pioneering work in speech synthesis and vocoding in the '30s as an inspiration for the Spectravox, which uses a 10 band bank of filters to shape a single oscillator into vocal, formant-like sounds. With a mic connected to an input, it can also function as a vocoder
The DFAM drum machine and Subharmonicon synth were shown at Moogfest in previous years. While the DFAM received a wider release, the Subharmonicon remains a limited edition. It's unknown whether the Spectravox will ever come to market.
Last week Moog announced a new semi-modular synth called Matriarch.
