Behringer has announced plans to clone the Yamaha CS-80.
According to a Facebook post, the budget manufacturer intends to share an early design of the so-called DS-80 in the coming days. As has become standard practice with Behringer, it remains to be seen whether the clone will actually reach production, as it has announced many more synth remakes than it seemingly intends to produce.
The news comes days after reports emerged that Yamaha was soliciting opinions regarding a CS-80 remake of its own. The decades-old instrument has a unique appeal in synth enthusiast circles thanks to its considerable weight, rich, wide sound and use in Vangelis' iconic soundtrack for Blade Runner.
