  • Update: Prince Charles will not close its doors; it's being renovated for a new concept. The misunderstanding arose over a Facebook post, which had been poorly translated from German to English. Prince Charles has updated the post clarifying that a redesign of the space will begin on June 1st.
Still, there will be some changes coming to Prince Charles. The Mortizplatz venue, known for its swimming pool bar and parties geared towards house, disco and hip-hop, is changing a direction in its programming, according to booker Tim Leginski's recent Facebook post. Over its eight-year run, the club has hosted DJs such as Moodymann, Prosumer and Derrick Carter, and live acts like Kelela and JPEGMAFIA. Prince Charles was also the home of popular soul party J.A.W, who invited the likes of Theo Parrish, Jeremy Underground and Leroy Burgess. "After eight great years with exciting days and unforgettable nights, it is time to give the swimming pool at Moritzplatz a new lease of life," Prince Charles said in a Facebook post. "We would like to thank all of the employees with their active [sic] who have created the foundation for every evening, all the artists who have brought the space to life with their music and art, and of course all of the guests who have created this community over the years and have accompanied us on this amazing journey." Prince Charles will host a party on May 31st to say goodbye to a longtime team member and its "old" way of programming. Read the original Facebook post.
