The 12-inch inhabits a "small mythological world" where each song is represented by a character.
The Philadelphia-based DJ and producer began writing the record after a family tragedy, in turn "[creating] a small mythological world that was a dramatized reflection of her own." Each song is represented by a different character, taking inspiration from "types of Jinn in Islam, Quranic stories of angels, with some of the creatures coming from Haram's own imagination." The artwork is by Samantha Garritano.
According to DJ Haram, the EP is guided by the rhythm of the Darbuka drums. "If each track is a body, the drums would be the energetic component at the core of every bodily system, the invisible soul and feeling," she says.
DJ Haram is a longtime Discwoman affiliate and one-half of 700 Bliss with Moor Mother. Their collaborative record, Spa 700, was released last year via Halcyon Veil and Don Giovanni. DJ Haram's most recent EP, Mixed Berries, arrived just last month.
