  • The new album from Acid Arab, Jdid, is coming out on Crammed Discs in October. Keeping with the record's remit of "deepening the dialogue between the northern, southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean," the eleven-track effort sees the group's French founders Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho working with a host of artists from North Africa and the Middle East. Algerians Radia Menel, Sofiane Saidi, Amel Wahby and Cheikha Hadjla all provide vocals, while Turkish saz player Cem Yildiz and Syrian keyboardist Rizan Said both make appearances. The track "Rajael" was written with Tunisian-Belgian producer Anmar 808 and "Soulan" with Les Filles d'Illighadad of Niger. Kenzi Bourras, who was originally drafted in for the group's live sets, is now a fully-fledged member. Minisky and Carvalho began releasing music as Acid Arab back in 2012 before growing into a larger outfit with Pierrot Casanova and Nicolas Borne around the time of the group's debut LP, Musique De France. Jdid, which means "new" in Arabic, is out October 18th. Regarding the group's attempt of creating a meeting point between electronic dance music and Arabic modal melodies and instrumentation, Minsky and Carvalho have said, "We don't paste oriental sounds on occidental beats, we want to embody both cultures without pretending to reinvent oriental music or fooling ourselves by believing we're inventing eastern dance music. We just want to be part of it, and contribute to this brilliant and enormous masterpiece that this music is, and has been for thousands of years." Listen to the first single "Club DZ."
