  • The DJ, producer and mezcal expert Thomas Bullock has announced his debut album as Tom Of England. L.I.E.S. says the six-track full-length explores "a beautiful grey area somewhere between P.I.L., Arthur Russell and downtown New York grit of old." Bullock, whose music career stretches back to the Tonka Hi-fi in England and the Wicked Sound System in San Francisco, has been focusing on the Tom Of England project for the past half-decade, releasing EPs on his own STD Production and Joy Orbison and Will Bankhead's Hinge Finger. Bullock, who was also one-half of Rub n Tug and a member of the Rough Trade-signed band A.R.E. Weapons, links up with a couple of old collaborators on Sex Monk Blues. Fellow Tonka member and Map Of Africa collaborator DJ Harvey plays kick drum on "Be Me." Ed Ruscha, with whom Bullock worked as Laughing Light Of Plenty, plays bass. Gabe Druzzi from The Rapture guests on sax, but the lion's share of Sex Monk Blues was produced in partnership with singer Bobbie Marie and studio engineer Chebon Littlefield. The album was released in a limited cassette edition by Ron Morelli's label earlier this year. Listen to "Song Of The Sex Monk."
