  • 808 State are back. The core duo of Graham Massey and Andy Barker have reunited for Transmission Suite, which is the first 808 State album in 17 years, since 2002's Output Transmission. The LP has a historical bent focused on the duo's hometown of Manchester—it was recorded at the old Granada studios where 808 State once performed live on television in 1989, and the music was inspired by the classic Manchester and Detroit records that have informed 808 State since the beginning. The duo also note an influence from Manchester's modern club scene, name-checking parties like Swing Ting and Eyes Down. "It's often quite broken, abstract, urban music," Massey says in the press release. "They might play weird shit: like [Bauhaus's] Bela Lugosi's Dead being played next to a dubstep tune, played next to a proper Jamaican reggae electronic B-side from the '80s next to drum & bass." Watch the video for lead single "Tokyo Tokyo."
