  • A new DJ bar called Mitsuki has opened in Tokyo's bustling Shibuya ward. Having celebrated the launch on July 23rd with Kenji Takimi and Force Of Nature, the 100-capacity basement adds to the city's collection of intimate bars with quality hi-fi installations and regular DJs, offering a chance for close-quarters drinking and dancing. Mitsuki and its dance floor, which can fit up to 70 people, is fitted with six Pioneer speakers and a locally made Alpha Model 9000 rotary mixer, while a VIP room features two Lowther TP1 Type Ds. Musically, the venue will showcase everything from disco, soul and house to techno, experimental and ambient. Mitsuki's first weekend of trading will see local acts Gonno and CYK playing on July 26th and 27th respectively, with Madteo guesting on August 2nd. Mitsuki is one of several new DJ bars to open in Shibuya this year, following the arrival of Azumaya in March and Yellow Blank Market in May. RA, in partnership with Asahi Super Dry, recently launched a new film series celebrating another aspect of Tokyo nightlife: listening bars. Watch the first episode.
