  • Laurie Anderson has a new album called Songs From The Bardo on the way via Smithsonian Folkways. The electronic music pioneer worked with the Tibetan singer and multi-instrumentalist Tenzin Choegyal as well as Jesse Paris Smith on the new LP, meant to be a sonic exploration of the Tibetan Book Of The Dead. Choegyal—born to a nomadic Tibetan family that was forced into exile—sings on Songs From The Bardo and plays Tibetan instruments including the lingbu (bamboo flute) and dranyen (Tibetan lute). The LP was originally performed as a live, improv-heavy concert at the Rubin Museum Of Art in New York City. The studio version also features Rubin Kodheli on cello and percussionist Shahzad Ismaily, Pitchfork reports. Listen to "Lotus Born, No Need To Fear."
