Ultra Music Festival looks set to return to Miami next year.
Miami commissioners voted on Thursday night to allow the festival to take place at its original location, Bayfront Park, by a margin of three to two. The decision has thrown a lifeline to Ultra, who in May announced the voluntary termination of its Florida event after 21 years due to concerns from the Miami City Council—a decision informed in part by "stressed-out fish."
Thursday's meeting saw divided opinion from both residents and commissioners—some noting negative environmental effects, others citing positive economic and cultural impacts—however, the slim majority vote in Ultra's favour means the festival will be able to return to its founding city, albeit with the offer to self-impose limits on operating hours and decibel output.
Ultra confirmed its intentions, posting to Facebook: "MIAMI, WE'RE COMING HOME! #BackToBayfront."
