  • The next release on Whities is a six-track EP by Carl Gari & Abdullah Miniawy, out September 6th. Carl Gari, the German trio of Jonas Yamer, Till Funke and Jonas Friedlich, first connected with Egypitan poet and musician Miniawy in 2015 in Cairo, where Miniawy lived before the oppressive Al-Sisi regime forced him to relocate to France. The forthcoming EP, The Act Of Falling From The 8th Floor, spans six tracks and is the outfit's second release, following a 2016 EP for The Trilogy Tapes. It was recorded between Paris and Munich. "The lyrical centerpiece of our new record, The Act Of Falling From The 8th Floor, is the poem of B’aj ????, where Abdullah [Miniawy] as the protagonist is committing suicide through jumping from the 8th floor of a building in Cairo," writes Yamer. "While falling down he describes the scenes that happen on the balconies—a scene for each floor and its balcony—and paints a dark picture of Egyptian society." Stream the EP in full via Bandcamp.
