  • Ryuichi Sakamoto has posted a warning to fans about someone (or multiple people) claiming to be his "disciple" in China. "We have received a few reports from fans in China that have become aware of individual(s) claiming to be disciples of Ryuichi Sakamoto," the Japanese artist's team posted across his social media platforms today. "This person seems to be creating trouble for Ryuichi's fans there. If you meet or see someone claiming to be Ryuichi's disciple, please know this person is being untruthful." There's no more detail on where the reports are coming from, but the statement also confirms that Sakamoto does not have—and never had—any kind of disciple or apprentice. Sakamoto is one of the most important artists in electronic music history. Most recently, he scored an episode of Black Mirror. This past weekend, we published a Rewind review of his group Yellow Magic Orchestra's classic 1979 album Solid State Survivor.
