The reimagined venue is focused on providing immersive sonic experiences with a new programming direction.
"Our wish was to create a room that could be considered as the home for immersive sonic experiences," Doka's cultural program manager Axel van der Lugt told Resident Advisor. "Around the world you see a new kind of bar coming up that really focuses on sound quality. We felt that Amsterdam is ready for a similar place with these qualities."
This, of course, includes a technical renovation. Doka the sound bar now includes a four-point Danley Sound Labs soundsystem and renewed acoustics, as well as an upgraded and custom-built DJ booth.
Doka's programming concepts have also been updated. On Fridays and Saturdays, under the name Doka Studio, the venue will invite DJs to "play long and uncompromising sets, from open to close." On Sundays, they'll begin a daytime "matinee program," which lasts ten hours, from 13:00 to 23:00, and will transform the bar into an intimate, 150-capacity rave.
