  • Love thy Parade! The management set to run the 2004 Berlin Love Parade recently sadly announced there would be no event this year. With only 3 months left to sort the final details this year's event will not be celebrated due to a lack in funding as costs dramatically rise. The key problem lies in the production costs, as the Love Parade gained a status of a 'regular event' which saw additional costs add up to over €900,000 compared with previous years. Check these figures - Production cost at the time Loveparade... - was still an official demonstration (2000) 301.700 Euro. - as a regular event (2003) 1.225.000 Euro. It's appalling and not a great thing for the industry, or Berlin's tourism. To quote the press release the organizers said "We are planning to meet in the near future in order to discuss our next steps and the conditions which could make future Loveparade's possible." All is not lost, as the officials work out where to go from here, and it's not just about Berlin anymore. The third Love Parade in Mexico City took place March (with 250,000 visitors), the first San Francisco Love Parade is due on September 25 and Tel Aviv will celebrate its sixth Loveparade on August 27.
