  • In advance of his gig at Planet E's London takeover, we caught up via e-mail with Matt Edwards and found out he's working on original material for the vaunted imprint.

  • Can you talk a bit about the first time you met Carl Craig in person? I used to go and hear Carl all the time back in the '90s and I still have a bunch of flyers from where we played together at Jim Masters' Open All Hours night at the Ministry Of Sound. Back then I was resident in the bar and Carl did a lot of amazing gigs. This was when techno wasn't fashionable. There wasn't the jetset gyspy chic thing that goes with it now. Anyway, it wasn't until around 1999 that I think we properly got to meet and have dinner. This was back when I was promoting the Vapour nights at Home in Leciester Square for the Riki Tik guys. The club was bad, but Carl rocked it and performed with an MPC, keyboards and a mic. It was a night I'll never forget! What is your favorite Planet E release? That's such a tricky question as there's been such a variety of releases from jazz to hip-hop and of course some of the finest house and techno from around the globe. But I guess the one that will always be in the box is Carl's "Throw"...I was lucky enough to get a test pressing one night when i was at the Ministry and I can always remember taking it home and listening on the decks with my headphones (I was still at my folks) and just being blown away. Carl really manages to bridge the gap between genres so well and that's why he's admired by everyone from Giles Peterson to Grooverider. Are you doing any remixes for the upcoming releases? If so, what did you tackle? I'm actually working on some original material for Planet E which I hope will come out later this year. Carl loves the demo and I'm just waiting to finish building my new studio. Apart from that I'm making some special edits for the night and I'd really like to remix one of the Tres Demented tracks. Just need to find more time.
