  • Hailing from the USA, producer/DJ RJD2 (Def Jux) is a solo artist and performer in the hip hop scene, following the tradition of DJ Shadow and Timbaland. Your chance to catch the emotional genius of RJD2's hip hop new soul sound happens on Thursday February 3, when he returns to Melbourne for one solo show only! From 1998 to 1999, RJD2 saw success blossom as DJ/producer for the Columbus-based group the Megahertz, with two twelve-inch singles on Bobbito Garcia's legendary NY label, Fondle 'em records. In the Spring of 2001, RJD2 had his formal introduction to hip-hop as a solo artist on "Def Jux Presents", a compilation showcasing the roster of his record label, Definitive Jux Records. 2002 saw RJD2 release the critically acclaimed debut "Dead Ringer", which not only solidified his spot as one of the underground's top producers, but also caught the ears of Grammy-man ?uestlove of The Roots who called the album one of his favorite of the year. High praise indeed! RJD2's trip to Australia comes as a followup to his new release "In Rare Form", a compilation of his most hard to find instrumental tracks produced for other artists such as Diverse, Viktor Vaughn, Copywrite, Soul Position, Tame-One, Cage. "In Rare Form"is available now as a limited edition CD & double vinyl. RJD2 will play on 4 turntables, showing us a new direction, some well loved classics and a whole new album. Local support comes from Paz, Gsan and JPS. The gig takes place at First Floor, Fitzroy, with doors open 9pm. Presale tickets $20+bf - Available from Gaslight, Polyester, Northside, Cram, Greville St, Central Station CBD, DMC, and www.sjooshi.com.
