  • Sound intrudes every aspect of our modern lives – lifts, shopping malls, supermarkets, televisions, radio. But how often do we really listen? Liquid Architecture, Australia’s annual sound arts festival, now in its sixth year asks you to stop and listen and get rapt in the change. Presenting a series of exciting and invigorating live performances, installations, screen programs, artist talks and forums, the festival takes place in Melbourne from July 1- 7. Of most interest to many will be the Liquid Architecture party taking place on July 2 from 7:30pm at the Public Office. This event features German artists Thomas Brinkmann and TBA (Natalie Beridze) and is the launch of the new album from Melbourne artist Zen Paradox aka Steve Law. Local support also provided by a variety of truly interesting and diverse electronic artists include Pat Stormont, Robin Fox, SEO, local djs and more. For those into film there is a special film screening on Tuesday July 5 from 7:30pm at the Kaleide Theatre at RMIT. This program is called “Fly in the Pigment’ and features a selection of previously unseen 16 mm avante garde films that have been provided for this screening by the National Film and Sound Archive. Liquid Architecture also welcomes the San Francisco 16mm projector performing ensemble Wet Gate who will be performing /jamming as a band using their 16mm projectors , the films and the sounds from those films to create a truly unique experience. There will also be a number of concerts taking place during the week featuring both local and international artists. Friday July 1 features a concert at the North Melbourne Town Hall that features amongst others DJ Olive (USA), Antediluvian Rocking Horse, Essendon and others. July 3 features a concert with Alan Lamb, French artists Eric La Casa and Jean Luc Guionnet . In addition to this, the festival also features a number of feedback sessions and master classes where participants have the chance to work closely with featured artists such as Thomas Brinkmann from Germany and the French sound artists Eric La Casa and Jean Luc Guionnet. The Liquid Architecture Sound Arts festival takes place in Melbourne from July 1- 7 at various venues and full details for all events can be found on their website.
