James Zabiela's follow-up to 'Alive' proved to be worth all the anticipation. His new Renaissance 2 CD compilation features a "Computed" disk (CD1), and a "Recorded" disk (CD2). The former was created using Ableton technology and mixed entirely on a computer, whilst the later was mixed live with 3 CDJ's, EFX units and samplers.
The results? 2 CDs of completely different nature featuring tracks by Zabiela himself such as "Robophobia" and "EyeAMComputer" as well as tracks by Aphex twin, Buick Project, Lee Coombs and Trentemoller to name a few. What both CD's do have in common, however, is the techy, minimally progressive, and funky computerized sounds that James is know for.
This Renaissance release serves up the current debate about the future of dance music in the form of music for the soul. Those who are still wondering what the DJ world will be like without vinyl, need to pay closer attention to Zabiela's remarkable mixing and effects, which are also explained step-by-step in the CD sleeve. His skills in combination with the track selection make for a delicious musical treat of electric sounds.
