  • New South Wales NYE festival Lost Paradise will not be going ahead with its 2019 edition. As bushfires continue to ravage Australia's east coast, organisers of the event have taken to Facebook to explain, "After extensive consultation with the Rural Fire Service, emergency personnel and other key stakeholders, the difficult decision has been made to cancel this year's Lost Paradise festival." "Our beautiful home in Sydney's Central Coast is facing intense and unpredictable fire conditions that are sadly expected to deteriorate in the coming days," they continue. "We simply cannot put anyone’s life at risk. We have been working around the clock to explore all possible options to relocate the festival, but it is just not feasible within the timeframe." The festival was due to take place from December 28th to January 1st in Glenworth Valley, just north of Sydney, with artists like Honey Dijon, Denis Sulta, Green Velvet and Heidi. All ticket holders will be eligible for a refund. Lost Paradise is the second festival in the state this month to be called off due to the risk of bushfires. Subsonic Music Festival, which was due to take place from December 6th to 8th, had to be postponed at the last minute "amid safety concerns arising from ongoing fires in the area." So far, bushfires have burned close to three million hectares of land across the state, claiming six lives and destroying more than 700 homes. Read Lost Paradise's full statement.
