Glasgow venue The Art School is going into liquidation.
A liquidator from local firm MHA Henderson Loggie has been appointed to GSASA Ltd, the commercial wing of Glasgow School Of Art Students' Association, a registered charity. 32 staff, most of whom had been on zero-hour contracts since October, lost their jobs with immediate effect, Glasgow Live reports.
"Despite considerable efforts, the board has been unable to establish a sustainable future for the business against a backdrop of continued tough trading conditions," Shona Campbell, the liquidator, said. "All staff were made redundant with immediate effect, although all casual staff members ceased work at the end of October last year. We will provide support for those who qualify to obtain their full entitlements."
Back in November, The Art School was forced to suspend its programme of club nights and live gigs as a result of large debts accrued over years. A month earlier, as news broke that their jobs were under threat, staff gathered outside the venue to protest.
It's the end for The Art School in its current form. First opened in 1927, it's been a key player in Glasgow's flourishing electronic scene for more than a decade, hosting everyone from SOPHIE, Powder and Marcel Dettmann to Andy Stott and Theo Parrish.
GSASA and The Glasgow School Of Art are both separate entities from GSASA Ltd and are therefore unaffected by the liquidation.
