  • Air Texture has announced two charity compilations, place : ecuador and place : vancouver, to be released on his place label on May 15th. The first compilation, place : ecuador, was created in collaboration with Ecuadorian artist Quixosis. Album sales will benefit indigenous peoples in the Amazon rainforest such as the Waorani, whose territory has recently been opened up to potential oil exploration. The LP will be released in partnership with Amazon Frontlines, a nonprofit organization defending indigenous rights to land and cultural survival in the Amazon rainforest. Proceeds from the accompanying record compiled by Kuma, place : vancouver, will go towards Vancouver's First Nations people, who have faced multiple threat of oil pipelines endangering their ecosystems. The album will also support the Pacific Wild nonprofit, whose mission is to protect the Great Bear Rainforest on Denny Island. "Vancouver is a hard place to make electronic music. The public face of greenery, water, giant glass towers and legal weed is a front," Kuma says. "The city is in the midst of a massive housing crisis. Gentrification drives out our independent venues. Canada's Prime Minister has brought the country a pipeline that could ruin the pristine beauty of our local environment with one single spill." "So we do what we can to make change and to bring together communities where we can," he adds. "Vancouver is awash in DJs, producers and promoters doing amazing work to raise a fist and transcend all these things." Air Texture, real name James Healy, founded place as a country-specific compilation series benefiting local human rights groups. Listen to "Mirrorcity" from place : vancouver.
