  • Berlin club [ipsə] (pronounced "Ipse") was damaged in an arson attack on Monday, April 27th. The blaze, which started around 5 AM, spread across an area of approximately 400 square meters, according to the Berliner Feuerwehr Twitter account. "As police confirmed today, [ipsə] was the victim of arson, leading to the complete destruction of the entire indoor area and parts of the outdoor area," reads a statement on the club's Facebook page. "We are still speechless. Standing in the ruins of what dozens of people put years of energy and passion into is almost excruciating—and it is unbearable to imagine that this happened purposefully. And to make it worse: due to the specific situation insurance companies won't compensate the damage to our entire inventory, including the technical equipment." Around 80 firefighters, one of whom ended up in hospital with injuries, were working on the site, which was under control by 1:30 PM, Der Tagesspiegel reports. The club sits just across the canal from popular party spot Club der Visionaere, which was also hit by a fire in June last year. The [ipsə] team has set up a crowdfunding campaign to help support the club's rebuild. You can donate here. Read the Facebook statement in full.
