  • Flying Lotus, Yaeji and FKA twigs are among the electronic artists who won AIM awards yesterday. The AIM Independent Music Awards hosted its first virtual event Wednesday night, August 12th. Hosted for the tenth time by the UK Association Of Independent Music, the ceremony honored innovative artists within the independent community. Flying Lotus accepted the award for best independent track for "More," his collaboration with Anderson .Paak. "It feels like a true blessing to be able to receive an award and to be acknowledged in these times, when they make us feel like our work isn't essential and what we do is just, whatever," he responded. "So, thank you for the reminder that what we do is very important." Yaeji was awarded international breakthrough for What We Drew 우리가 그려왔, which earned an RA-Recommends earlier this year. FKA twigs was granted best [difficult] second album for Magdalene, which made RA's Album of The Year. The UK artist accepted the award while thanking her label Young Turks, saying, "Being an independent artist means every vision is my own and I get to express that, and my label releases without question or judgment." Best independent remix was collected by Lafawndah and Nídia, for Nídia's rework of Lafawndah's track "Tourist." Performances for the virtual event were given by AJ Tracey and Little Simz, the former earning recipient of the innovator award and the latter granted the pioneer award.
