  • The team behind postponed Thai festival Wonderfruit has announced an alternative event called Moobaan Wonder. Since Thailand is currently experiencing low levels of COVID-19 transmission, organisers are running a pop-up event across five weekends in December and January, starting on Friday, December 4th. The event, which will take place at the vast Siam Country Club, is aimed primarily at locals. "Moobaan" is Thai for "village." The event features an all-local in-person lineup, with the likes of Sunju Hargun, Marmosets, DOTT, DJ Dragon, Maft Sai and The Paradise Bangkok Molam International Band among the confirmed. Livestreams of international acts such as Colleen "Cosmo" Murphy and Trojan Sound System are also on the bill. In many ways, Moobaan Wonder won't be too different from previous Wonderfruit editions. It retains the festival's staple elements, which include sustainable art structures, craft workshops, farm-to-table feasts and wellness initiatives. A site-specific project combining sound art and field recordings, which debuted at Wonderfruit in 2019, is also set to return. Pandemic-related travel restrictions are only just starting to ease in Thailand. The country recently opened up to tourism after keeping a tight lid on coronavirus outbreaks.
