  • Darsah Jesrani is one half of the US production outfit Metro Area. He will be visiting our shores in late February and early March for a four city tour that kicks off in Adelaide on February 24. Darshan met up with production partner Morgan Geist in 1995/96 when attempting to find a new direction in his production and DJing through deep house, and R&B/classic soul music. Darshan and Morgan moved to lower Manhattan and created a studio there. They quickly discovered their common ground and worked on a couple of tracks under the "Phenom" moniker before beginning Metro Area in 1998. Since then, the duo has been responsible for audibly marking the dance music landscape with their own distinct style which embraces the breadth of their combined musical influences. Reaping superlative praise from DJs, listeners, dancers, critics and industry-folk, the first 4 Metro Area EPs have achieved cult/collector status. Individual tracks from these 12" releases have made numerous compilation appearances via license. Their eponymous debut album, released in the fall of 2002 was critically well received. The duo has been lauded for updating and contributing to the club/disco sound and ethic from within the context of loop-locked "house" and "techno" clubland, rather than simply re-coopting, eulogizing or exploiting it. Currently, Darshan is busy with a hectic, international touring and DJ schedule, relocation to Brooklyn, NY and the creation of a new studio and workspace, a remix for Environ's UnClassics 12" series, new Metro Area material with Morgan for fall 2003 release, the production of a song written with Lisa Shaw and Alexi Delano and a monthly residency with Morgan at New York's famed music spot APT. Metro Area has most recently completed remixes of Hugh Masekela's "Mama" for Verve Records and Alexi Delano/Robert Manos'"Round & Round" for Brooklyn's Statra label.
