  • July 8, 2006. Radioactivity is a weekly roundup of the best radio shows, podcasts and downloadable sets online. Things to listen to while you potter about in the garden. *** Stink: Ibiza early birds who made it to the opening party of Damian Lazarus and Michael Mayer’s Stink residency last week were gifted with an exclusive limited edition CD by the pair. It was sure to turn up on the net at some point and after a bit of hunting RA has spotted it on Ibiza Voice - click the player icon and it streams on channel two. Very nice indeed – this will satisfy until ‘Immer 2’ arrives. Awakenings: The Awakenings Fest happened in Amsterdam last week – it’s one of RA's favourite outdoor techno gatherings because it covers the gamut of techno no matter how hard, fast, tribal or minimal. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it this year but not to worry as more than a dozen live sets have already been uploaded to VPRO. Pick of the bunch so far is by Mobilee Records label boss and record junkie Anja Schneider who impresses with her set of unreleased goodies and tasty white labels. Other new Awakenings sets streaming at VPRO include a deep one from Shinedoe a tight one from Ricardo Villalobos and a goofy one from the Wighnomy Brothers. Buzzin’: Ask any house jock what UK labels are hot right now and chances are they’ll say deep house imprint Buzzin' Fly. The label is run by Ben Watt from Everything But The Girl but these days he’s a DJ and a fine one, too. Watt’s studio mix at Tokyo’s Samurai FM mixes up Luciano, Bjork, the new Tiefschwarz (with EBTG’s Tracey Thorn on vocals) and Buzzin' Fly's own Rocco Rodamaal– the perfectly laid back soundtrack to your Sunday morning. Other sets added this week to the treasure trove of streams at Samurai FM are Shane Berry [Trapez], Sasse [Mood Music] and RA podcast pick Serge Santiágo. The Dubliner: Journalist and DJ Ronan Fitzgerald has a show on Radio Ireland which is doubly intriguing: not only does he play the latest in electrohouse and minimal but he does all the voice breaks in Irish! Last week's show included cuts on Kompakt, Connaisseur and white labels from Jay Haze's Fuckaponydelic project all politely introduced in a language both familiar and completely incomprehensible. Maith thú. The show is broadcast 9:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. GMT on Raidió na Life. Apparat live: One live set doing the rounds this week is Apparat live at Nitsa in Barcelona last month. RA caught his ferocious live show at The Sounds of Germany showcase in Tokyo in 2005 and was impressed with the whirlpool of breakbeats and noise that he conjured out of his laptop, but this set is different: marrying machines and melody into a hummable, musical set that even sounds in parts like refurbished progressive breaks! Apparat is one of those artists who makes laptop performances make sense. Hat tip to Jeff at Play FM who regularly tapes live sets in Barcelona – recently he’s also captured Kiki at Nitsa and Donnacha Costello at The Loft. (You need to register to stream the set but we think it's worth it.) That's it. If you have any links to fantastic music which you want to share with the world, post them in the forum or send 'em along to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Radioactivity’. *** Radioactivity - delivered to your door with the milk every Saturday morning GMT.
