  • American acid techno dukes it out with French electro as Josh Wink, Abe Duque and Motor face off against Justice, David Guetta and Headman Saturday night at Turnmills June 26. Top of the American bill is Josh Wink who most will know from his acid anthem ‘Higher States of Consciousness’ in the nineties but these days he’s reinventing himself: fresh from the success of his ‘Sessions’ mix and authoring the pick of the tracks off Hawtin’s Min2Max compilation (‘Have to Get Back’), expect Wink’s set to straddle the best of both worlds – the underground and the party – with a lick of 303 thrown in for good measure. Also in the squad is New Yorker Abe Duque, a DJ with a big reputation for moving the room. Duque has released on labels as varied as Tresor, Sähkö and Warner Bros but he’s most known to RA for his killer club lament ‘What Happened?’ with Blake Baxter, a piece of vinyl which wore out many a needle in clubs in 2005. Expect a mix of acid, house and techno with a groove. Those who like their techno dark, sweaty and cooked the old way should be front and centre for Motor, most known for their ‘Sweatbox’ single and this year’s ‘Klunk’ full-lengther which both met with positive notices. Motor have remixed the likes of Marilyn Manson, Throbbing Gristle and most recently Depeche Mode which give you an idea of where they’re coming from, but if you have iTunes, you can also subscribe to their podcast and see for yourself. Meanwhile in room two Turnmills will witness a mini-French invasion as Ed Banger Records send their top troops across the pond. Top of the bill are Justice, riding into London in the wake of the chart-topping success of their smash ‘We are Your Friends’. NME calls it "the indestructable indie/dancefloor anthem" and "probably one of the best songs ever" so you know Justice have crossover appeal. Anyhow, check out the Sunday morning video. Also in the ring for the French is three-time House Music Awards winner and Paris/Ibiza institution David Guetta who’ll be spinning electro-meets-house of the immodest variety (who else would dub their parties F*** Me I’m Famous!). For a closer look at what to expect check out the tracklist of his new ‘F*** Me I’m Famous’ mix on Ministry of Sound. Ed Banger boss (and Daft Punk manager) Pedro Winter will also be behind the decks, alongside more leftfield electro-rock shenanigans from RA podcaster Headman. Headman’s a Renaissance man at heart: as well as producing and remixing the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Annie and Mylo, he also DJs and paints his own CD artwork. Out the back has a more live flavour with Australian synth-poppers The Presets headlining the evening’s bill. Signed to label du jour Modular Records, home of Cut Copy and Wolfmother, the Presets have a reputation as a live act for winning over jaded crowds on the strength of their tunes. If you need a breather from the Franco-American festivities, upstairs features an '80s/'90s soundtracks, Andy & Ed’s Legendary Swap Shop, salacious slinky racing, retro computer games, mullets, shellsuits & cans of quatro. And finally if the music is all too much, as the press puts it “Fishseeksbicycle will have you laughing on their gas all night long. The dirty swines.” Full line-up Room 1: Josh Wink David Guetta Abe Duque Justin Robertson Anil Chawla Room 2: Justice (Ed Bangers Records, Paris) Headman Motor (DJ Set) Pedro Winter (Ed Bangers Records, Paris) Dan Van Damn Room 3: Hosted by The Midnight Ramble Programmed, compered and mixed by John Kennedy (X-FM) Very Special Guests… The Presets (Live) Devil’s Gun (Live) Man Like Me (Live) IDC Room 4: Hosted by Pass the Joypad Featuring an 80’s/90’s Soundtrack, Andy & Ed’s Legendary Swap Shop, Salacious Slinky Racing, Retro Computer Games, Mullets, Shellsuits & cans of Quatro.
