Top disco thief Justus Kohncke returns with a new 12” ‘Advance’ out now on Kompakt. Let the sample trainspotting begin.
It’s been a while. Justus Kohncke hasn’t had a solo release since his ‘Doppelleben’ long-player at the beginning of 2005. Busy this year with remix work for the more crossover likes of Zero 7 and Hot Chip, Kohncke’s solo efforts are known for their crafty marriage of old disco samples to Kompakt sleekness. Kohncke scored dancefloor bullseyes with a number of solo 12”s on the label including ‘Timecode’, ‘2 After 909’ and ‘Elan’, and ‘Advance’ promises more of the same. As the press puts it, “While self-sufficient functionalism is dominating the sound of our times, Justus’ erected index finger is pointing towards decampment and renewal. And on the mirror ball above. Joy to the world. Disco is back.”
