Finnish experimental techno duo Pan Sonic embark on a rare North American tour with dates in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Haven.
Pan Sonic are Finns Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen, a live techno duo not for the faint of heart. Panasonic performances can be brutal affairs: in 1995 one took place in London's East End out the back of an armoured car rigged up with a 5K turbo sound system. The rig was based on a police model designed to emit low frequencies that accelerate the bowel movements of listeners, thus incapacitating troublemakers by making them mess their pants (according to Jimmy Cauty of The KLF, who’s been known to stretch the truth…)
But they have a softer side, too. Mika Vainio is also active with the quieter Ø project, which has influenced a whole generation of minimal techno artists (okay, they’re all ripping him off but ssh!) The live dates are Pan Sonic’s first North American shows in seven years, and it might be another seven years before you get to see them again so make the most of it.
