  • Cass and Tom Mangan, aka Deadset, release their debut album on Jesse Rose's Front Room Recordings. 'Keys Open Doors' arrives in September. British remix duo Cass and Mangan are best known for their wonky rejigs of Royksopp, Miss Kittin, Tiefschwarz, Justin Timberlake and the Scissor Sisters, but the pair also DJ together with recent calls to play respected nights at the Panorama Bar, Fabric and The End. But don’t call them Cass and Mangan now. Call them Deadset. So what happened to Cass and Mangan? "Cass & Mangan were killed by Deadset,” says Cass. “CSI have confirmed this as fact.” The new album brings together squelchy minimal, house and electro as well as the duo's trademark cut-up vocals, all with an eye on the dancefloor. "Our plan was always to write an album of tracks that could be played in the clubs and I think we've achieved that, " says Tom Mangan. "We also really wanted to try and create something that worked as an organic whole,” says Cass. “Something you could put on at home and it would make some kind of sense and be genuinely enjoyable to listen to the whole way through.” 'Keys Open Doors' marks Front Room's first foray into the difficult dance album format, which label head Jesse Rose is mindful of. “I think albums work great as long as you don't stray off the path. If you’re a great house producer, don't try and put a very average trip-hop track on there. It's better to have eight spot-on house tracks than fourteen with loads of fillers.” So how did the connection with Deadset come about? "I was a big fan of their remixes and as soon as I heard an unsigned production it was time to move in for the kill,” says Rose. “Front Room is all about trying out new things that work well on the dancefloor and that's exactly what Deadset do.” 'Keys Open Doors' tracklist 1.
