  • Heads up, there's a new festival kid in town: Stereosonic. If the lineup of new summer festival Stereosonic is any indicator, Australia has at long last fallen out of love with trance, prog and breaks. Or maybe that's wishful thinking. Billed as a slightly edgy alternative to your average summer doof, Stereosonic hosts five stages of music with something to intrigue both the Modular kids and the snooty techno grownups. On the menu is pop house (Martin Ten Velden, Armand Van Helden) Detroit techno (Stacey Pullen, Kevin Saunderson, Steve Rachmad), electro house (Booka Shade, Fedde Le Grand) as well as a swathe of currently de rigeur dance rock (Riot in Belgium, Van She, Bang Gang DJs, DJ Mehdi) which will no doubt satisfy the breaks fans tagging along anyway. There's also Mr. I-don't-play-minimal-techno Trentemoller jamming with his three-piece band, so all bases are pretty much covered. Not a bad soundtrack to a spin on the Ferris Wheel surely.
