A revered American DJ and label boss takes us back to the beginning.
Christopher Milo's journey through dance music is a unique one. He traces the roots of his DJ career to the early '90s in Florida, a state not especially well known internationally for its warehouse rave scene. Through a combination of drive, musical curiosity and, as he tells it, exceptionally good travel connections, he helped plant the seeds of the culture there. Many credit him with throwing the first raves in the Southeast. But as a producer, DJ and label owner, the man best known to most as Three made a name for himself well beyond the Sunshine State—he's that rare dance music figure who truly lives up to the term DJ's DJ, and the records he's championed by way of Hallucination and especially its spinoff Hallucination Limited are revered by the likes of Cassy and Ricardo Villalobos. Decades on from his first time behind the decks, he's still incredibly enthusiastic about dance music culture, and it showed when he came by our Berlin office recently. The interview fell on the eve of the launch of Hallucienda, the latest evolution of his label.
