- With more than 1,000 production credits to his name, there aren't many corners of UK dance music untouched by Ashley Beedle. He first made a name for himself in the early '80s with Shock Sound System, a collective of likeminded soul and funk fanatics who were one of the first crews to introduce house music to Notting Hill Carnival. Later, as acid house tore through London, Beedle translated his transcendental club experiences into 12-inches, helping soundtrack a generation as part of Black Science Orchestra and X-Press 2. The latter, formed in partnership with Rocky and Diesel, would transform Beedle into a globetrotting star at the turn of the millennium, riding the wave of success brought on by the David Byrne collaboration "Lazy." Since then, he's made music with reggae icon Horace Andy, released one of the most comprehensive edit compilations in memory and started a new record label, Back To The World. Earlier this month, Beedle and his partner, veteran soul DJ Jo Wallace, dropped by our London office to discuss the finer points of his career with Carlos Hawthorn, including why, even after thirty years in the game, there's still plenty to learn.
