Veterans and newer faces share their experiences of a changing music industry live from Dekmantel Festival.
This week's Exchange kicks off a suite of coverage recorded live at Amsterdam's EYE Film Institute for the fourth edition of RA's annual conference at Dekmantel Festival.
First, we have Martha Pazienti Caidan presenting a panel titled "Knowledge sharing across generations," which brought together a combination of scene veterans and newer artists for a knowledge-sharing exercise. Joined by DJ and curator Carista, Aaron Coyes from psychedelic pop duo Peaking Lights, shapeshifting DJ-producer Jan Schulte and renowned synthesist and composer Suzanne Ciani, we hear contrasting perspectives on how best to operate within a radically changing industry. Covering the pros and cons of management and self-promotion, the importance of mentoring and the changes accessibility has wrought on electronic music, it's a discussion full of advice for young artists.
