  • Feedback and the human voice are the instruments of choice for Lesley Flanigan. Her compositions are decidedly experimental, but they've found surprising resonance because of the way she molds these simple elements into something surprisingly full-bodied. The NYC-based artist performs with speakers she's built herself. She attaches contact mics to them, and controls them to create haunting compositions that are as emotional as they are physical. At the 2012 Communikey Festival, as part of our ongoing series of live RA Exchanges at events around the world, we talked to Flanigan about her intimate relationship with her speakers, and why she has no problem with audience members falling asleep during her performances.
