Sub:terranea was established in York in 2013 as an outlet for the original 3 residents (Rory, Dan and Phil) who had all been DJing for a number of years and wanted to share their skills and extensive record collections in a club environment. They also wanted to push underground bookings that sometimes don’t get the attention they deserve.
After a year of successful parties in their basement venue in York the guys were given the opportunity to start putting on events at Wire. Immediately the music they were pushing seemed to resonate with a distinctive crowd in Leeds, a mixture of knowledgeable younger students and older music heads that gives the night a friendly, up-for-it atmosphere.
In 3 years at Wire Sub:terranea have focused on classy DJ bookings including the likes of Ewan Pearson, Man Power, and Trevino (RIP) and become renowned for organising some special live sets from Radioactive Man, John Heckle and Conforce. Still though the resident DJs are held in high regard and recently Alex Brown has been added to ranks. You will find the residents on rotation often playing 2-3 hour sets at both Wire and the monthly social events at 212 Bar.
There are no restrictions on music style as long as it fits in with the tastes of the promoters so expect to hear everything from ambient to deep house, techno and electro but programmed so that it gives a natural flow to the night.
Now in their 5th year the night goes from strength to strength with plenty more exciting bookings and concepts in the pipeline.
