Monoton was founded in 1979 by hypermedia wizard Konrad Becker as an art project that underwent various transformations and collaborations in its exploration of psycho-active sound programming and its psychosocial contextualizing. Based on the blank staff lines of an empty sheet of music, the distinct cover design of early records made it into a various exhibitions. In 1998 The Wire magazine singled out Monoton’s record "Monotonprodukt07" from 1982 among the 100 most important records of the 20th century
