Before this label and its music, El Milagro was a place. It was one of Uruguay’s first underground clubs, out in sunny Punta del Este. It was also label owner Fede Lijt’s childhood home, and it was there, in a tiny bedroom under a set of stairs where he received his first lessons in electronic music. Everything from disco to house and techno would make his mother’s house vibrate on summer mornings. And it’s where the wheels began to turn.
16 years later, many things have changed. The backdrop has gone from Punta del Este to Bahía’s beaches to snowy south Argentina, back to Uruguay and finally, Berlin. The house lives on in memories, as does the woman behind all the magic. To this day, Fede still encounters people who had the chance to experience El Milagro, a name so associated with love and good music that there was no other choice when it came time to christen the imprint.
And that’s exactly what powers El Milagro records – an undying love for quality music, art, and its ability to bring people together, to transform moments and places. It’s not a label set on establishing a specific sound or genre because it operates under the belief that when music is good, categories don’t matter. Naturally, this is a concept tied with the nostalgia and romanticism that can only admit one format: vinyl. El Milagro will edit only on wax. It is a message in itself and a way to reach those with similar mindsets and commitment to music. Gente como uno.
